Last updated: March 22, 2026
What Elderus Monitor Does
Elderus Monitor is a caregiver protection tool that helps families monitor and manage e-commerce purchasing activity for older adults experiencing cognitive decline. It consists of a Chrome extension installed on the monitored person's browser and a web-based caregiver dashboard.
What Data We Collect
The extension collects the following data only on Amazon.com pages:
- Product names, prices, categories, and ASINs from product pages
- Cart contents and totals from cart pages
- Checkout attempt timestamps
- Order confirmation details (items purchased, order numbers)
What We Do NOT Collect
- No data from any website other than Amazon.com
- No screenshots, page snapshots, or full page content
- No keystrokes or form input data (passwords, payment info, etc.)
- No browsing history, cookies, or session data
- No email, banking, social media, or healthcare site content
- No personally identifiable information beyond what appears in product data
How Data Is Used
Collected data is sent to the Elderus Monitor server and displayed in the caregiver dashboard. It is used exclusively for:
- Displaying a timeline of purchasing activity to the designated caregiver
- Evaluating protection rules configured by the caregiver
- Intercepting checkout when a rule is triggered
Data Sharing
We do not sell, rent, or share collected data with any third party. Data is accessible only to the designated caregiver associated with the monitored person's account. There are no third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking services on the dashboard or in the extension.
Data Retention
Activity data is retained for 90 days by default. Caregivers can request deletion of all data associated with a monitored person by contacting us.
Consent
Elderus Monitor is designed for use within families and caregiving relationships where the monitored person or their legal guardian has consented to monitoring. The extension must be installed by or with the knowledge of the person being monitored or their authorized caregiver.
Security
All communication between the extension and our servers occurs over HTTPS. The extension authenticates using a unique API key generated during setup. Caregiver dashboard accounts are protected with hashed passwords.
Permissions
The extension requests only the minimum permissions needed:
- Host permission (amazon.com only): To read product and cart data on Amazon pages
- Storage: To cache configuration and rules locally
- Alarms: To periodically sync rules from the server
No broad permissions (tabs, history, bookmarks, all URLs) are requested.
